Annual 5K Run to Benefit Library
|
In celebration of our country’s birthday on July 4th, East Norriton, West Norriton, and the Municipality of Norristown will present the 4th Annual Celebration 5K run which starts at 8:30 a.m. The course will begin and end at Norristown Area High School and will mostly be in the Norristown Farm Park. Proceeds from the race will be donated to The Norristown Library. $5 off registration fee if it is postmarked before June 18th! Registration Form |

Science in the Summer
|
Science in the Summer is a free science education program that helps get kids excited about studying science with hands-on experiments. This year’s theme is “simple machines”. Sessions run for two consecutive Saturdays on July 14 and 21, or for four consecutive weekday mornings from July 16-19. Level I: Children completing grades 1 or 2 in June Level II: Children completing grades 3, 4, or 5 in June Sign ups are being taken until May 31. eBook Programs

The Computer Lab will be presenting two eReader programs in May. On Wednesday, May 9 we will focus on searching for library eBooks and getting them onto your Kindle or Kindle Fire. Free Online ReferenceUSA Database Training
|
Designed for the patron new to using the database, this hour-long session, ReferenceUSA Search Essentials, will cover all the basics of getting started with ReferenceUSA. Attendees will need an internet connection and a phone line to participate. The training will cover the Four Essentials anyone, particularly anyone new to ReferenceUSA, would want to know in order to be successful in using the resource. Cookbooks for Sale

The cookbook “Recipes and Remembrances” is
a collection of 300 homemade recipes from local community members.
The book is published in honor of the 200th anniversary of the
Borough of Norristown and is available for purchase at the library for $12.00. Book sales benefit the Norristown Bicentennial Celebration.

Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library and its Bookmobile GET REAL!
|
A new project of the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA called “Get REAL-Regional Education Assisting Life Long Learning” is bringing magnification technologies to select bookmobiles and library locations across Pennsylvania. MC-NPL and its bookmobiles are the recipients of several assistive technology magnifiers for the sight impaired. Visitors to the two full-service mobile libraries and Words-on-Wheels Senior Adult bookmobile will find a portable video magnifier called the "Ruby" designed to make reading easier for people with visual impairment. The very user-friendly equipment will be available for check-out to patrons with a valid library card. The main library is receiving a larger size video magnifier (sometimes called a closed circuit television “CCTV”) as well as an adapted computer work station equipped for people who need assistance accessing electronic text.
